| Building Your Dream |
By Home Builder’s Institute of the Greater Atlanta Home Builder’s Assocation

Once you have decided to build your dream home or add to your existing home, choosing a custom builder/remodeler is the most important step you will take. Custom means that a home or addition is designed and built especially for you.
The amount of time and money you will invest requires that you do your homework carefully when selecting the company who will, in essence, become your partner in making your dream come true.
Achieving your dream should be a rewarding experience that results in your complete satisfaction with the end product. The following tips can help you make the all-important choice of the custom builder/remodeler to do the job.
Doing Your Homework:
- Ask the prospective builder/remodeler for a list of former customers you can contact for referrals. Then, call the referrals and drive by their homes
- Have the prospective builder/remodeler take you through homes designed, built, or remodeled by the company
- Ask local Realtors about the prospective builder’s/remodeler’s professional reputation
- Ask the prospective builder/remodeler for financial references. Then, check the references.
- Get a copy of the company’s contract, sample specifications, and written warranty. Determine how comprehensive each is.
- Try to determine how flexible the prospective builder/remodeler is regarding changes, upgrades, or cutbacks
- Check out the prospective builder’s/remodeler’s current job sites for neatness
